Brooks Bombers

Bombers score early and often to blow out the Bulls

The Brooks Bombers rode a great pitching performance and hot bats as they defeated the Lethbridge Bulls 19-5 at Elks Field. Tyson Kilbreath took the mound for Brooks and Shayne McTavish countered for the Bulls.

Kilbreath started strong with a 1-2-3 inning. The Bomber bats got hot quickly, Payton Matthews, Kelton Phillips and Jacob Gillis all reached base consecutively to set up Zander Bretza who hit a sacrifice fly to score Matthews. D’Andre Gaines was next up and got hit by McTavish to load the bases once again. Cash Benavidez would make the most of his at bat and hit a grand slam to bust the game open.

Luke Dowdy would replace McTavish three batters later after a pair of Bombers got on base. Maddox Shaver was the first batter Dowdy faced and it wasnt the Ideal result for the Bulls as Shaver hit a three run shot to make it 8-0 with just one out in the bottom of the first. In his second at bat of the inning Jacob Gillis would hit a two run homerun for run number ten in the inning.

Kilbreath would march back out and settle in throwing his first three innings without allowing a run. In the Bottom of the third Kelton Phillips would stay hot and hit a two run shot to add two more on the board for Brooks.

The fourth inning would see some fireworks for both teams. With two outs the Bulls were able to take advantage of some Brooks errors and load the bases. Bernie Socarras would step up and hit a grand slam for the Bulls that put the first runs on the board for them. We have certainly seen some entertaining baseball between the two teams.

In the bottom half the Bombers responded. A walk and a single lead to Evan Leibl hitting an RBI double. Cash Benavidez would score on a 6-3 putout and Maddox Shaver would drive in with a double. The top of the order was back up for Payton Matthews and he made no mistake on a Luke Dowdy pitch and hit a two run homerun. Evan Harbach would replace Dowdy and hit his first batter Kelton Phillips. He would later score curtosey of a Jacob Gillis single that would make it six total runs on five hits in the inning to take a 18-5 lead into the fifth inning.

Lethbridge would add another run in the top of the fifth but that was all the offense they could cook up as Tyson Kilbreath was in a rythm all night. His outing ended after going seven strong not allowing and earned run.

Took Jitsukawa would replace Kilbreath and complete the final two innings giving up just two hits. Kelton Phillips would hit a solo homerun to complete the homerun cycle on a night filled with offense for the Bombers as they get over the hurdle and defeate Lethbridge 19-5.
