Brooks Bombers

Bombers drop back and forth series opener in Fort McMurray

The Brooks Bombers made the trip to Fort McMurray for the first of four games over the long weekend. The Bombers were looking to snap a three game losing streak since winning back to back games in Weyburn last weekend. The Giants however came in winners of back to back games at home over those same Weyburn Beavers.

Ollie Duthie would take the mound for Brooks and Fort McMurray would counter with Matt Sargent. The Giants righty got off to a quick start with a 1-2-3 inning. In the Bottom half the Giants would continue that momentum with three straight one out singles capped off Cruz Oxford picking up the first RBI of the game. Duthie would limit the damage from there.

The Bomber Bats would wake up in the top of the second with D’Andre Gaines drving in Jacob Gillis and Cash Benavidez returning the favour driving in Gaines to take the lead. The Bombers would add two more in the top of the fifth with Gillis getting an RBI off an infield single followed by a Zander Bretza single that scored Antony Gilbert. The Giants would get a run back in the bottom half from a Peyton McDowall tripple to make it 4-2 for Brooks.

The Giants would roar back in the following innings starting with the sixth where Bryce Nevils would go first to home on a throwing error in the field. Darcy Berry would score off a past ball and eventually so would Michael Buckley as the Giants would take the lead.

Brooks would get a run back but Fort McMurray would once again rally with Mack Mitchell and Benny Diaz both hitting an RBI singles. In the bottom of the eighth it was more of the same from the Giants as Mack Mitchell hit the second tripple of the game for the Giants that brought two more runners to the plate. Michael Buckley would cap off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

The Bombers got outscored 8-1 from the sixth inning on as Fort McMurray came back with vengance to steal the game from the Bombers. The two teams will be right back at it on Sunday Afternoon from Legacy Dodge Field. First pitch will be at 2:05.
